Come mid-October, the woods around Rabun County get busy again. Deer firearms season opens across Georgia, and hunters start heading into the Chattahoochee National Forest and the public land around Lake Burton before daylight. If your garage is already packed with tree stands, blinds, coolers and camo totes, a storage unit keeps all of it in one place and out of the way at home.
Hunting gear is bulky, and most of it only comes out a few months a year. Ladder stands, ground blinds, decoys, feeders and processing equipment take up a lot of garage floor, and plenty of it smells like the woods. Moving it into a unit frees up room at home for the vehicles and the holidays, and it gives you one spot to grab everything on the way out of town.
It depends on how much you hunt and who you hunt with. One hunter with a stand, a blind, a cooler and a few totes of clothing can usually fit everything in one of our small self-storage units. If you're storing a feeder, a game cart, processing gear or equipment for the whole family, a larger unit lets you add shelving and still walk in. Not sure which way to go? Call us at (706) 970-8312, tell us what you've got, and we'll point you to the right size.
For most hunters, yes. Our drive-up storage units on Hwy 441 are at ground level, so you can back the truck right up to the door and load a stand or a full cooler without carrying it down a hallway. That makes packing up before a hunt, and unloading a muddy truck after one, a lot quicker.
For the smaller, more sensitive items, climate controlled and indoor storage are worth a look. Clothing, boots, optics, trail cameras and electronics hold up better away from the damp air and big temperature swings we get in the North Georgia mountains.
Clean everything before it goes in. Wash and fully dry your clothing, then seal it in totes so it stays scent-free for next year. Wipe down stands and check straps, cables and buckles for wear, since it's easier to replace them in January than the night before opening day. Pull batteries out of trail cameras, rangefinders and flashlights so they don't corrode. And leave food, corn and bait at home, because they draw pests.
Often, yes. A larger drive-up unit works well for an ATV or side-by-side, and it keeps it close to your gear. Give us a call before you bring one in so we can go over the requirements and make sure the unit fits.
Our Wade Lane location offers covered and uncovered RV parking, so the travel trailer or camper you take to deer camp has a secure place between trips. We have spaces available now.
Our Hwy 441 property is fully fenced and well lit, with keypad gate access, security cameras and on-site management. Your gear is behind a gate and under watch the whole time it's with us.
